Smart Phones, Small Business, and the Scorn of the Kinder

I’m a technology throwback around my home office household. It’s not so much that I’m some Luddite who abhors tech itself; I freely use a host of tech services and apps – from Gmail and Docs to the Chromebook I’m blogging on at this very moment from a darkened hotel in Southern California – that make a world of difference in my professional life. But I’m not a believer in having the latest, greatest, or bestest.

My kids sometimes are quick to download the latest iOS. Others I know had to have the iPhone 6S the moment it hit store shelves – real or virtual.

Meanwhile, as my long-trusted and loyal, workaholic iPhone 4S becomes burdened with iOS 7, 32GB of memory, laggard battery life, or other issues that would make it existence untenable to most, I’m left to consider my next smart phone.

So, in my long-held believe that users bleed money, time, and sweat on the bleeding edge of tech, I’m searching for quite literally the “next generation” device as my next smart phone: The iPhone 5S.

As the holidays approach, home-based and home office business owners will hope to sell — and buy — products online. But like the question asked in the 1976 Dustin Hoffman movie Marathon Man, “Is it safe?”
